Biography

Idle Wolf is a guitarist, songwriter and a singer who doesn’t want to limit himself into any boundaries. His music and sound can be defined as energetic, organic, voodoo-ish, bluesy rock that share elements from jazz, and world music in it as well. While on stage, whether it being with a band or as a solo performer, Idle Wolf shifts through a wide range of musical emotions, stylistically from Miles Davis to AC/DC or Paco De Lucia to Jimi Hendrix. Idle Wolf’s music and performances comes straight from heart and therefore anything is possible – thus there always need to be la little room left for the magic to happen.

2014 is looking to be a great year for Idle Wolf. The band’s live shows, which are a well-balanced mixture of their originals and cover songs tailored into their own style, have created a positive buzz and even sold-out shows in their home region in Southern Finland. The bands organic sound is completed with The Specthorn on drums and Gizmo on bass who are mainly into 70’s hard and prog rock and 90’s alternative rock respectively, this line-up really creates an interesting combination.

Idle Wolf started the band back in 2003, with Don Romulus on drums, Jack Idle King on bass and John Secondhand on another guitar. The band toured across the Finland band circuit and released their first 5-song EP, “Outta Blue” which were continuously played in several night clubs in Northern Helsinki. Few years later the band broke up through several drug- and child support related problems.

The second incarnation of the band began in 2004, with Kenneth Berger on drums and Juho Puikkonen and Tatu Santaniemi taking parts as bass player. The band recorded a new psychedelia-influenced EP “Orange Purple” which sold out its 500-copy edition rather quickly. The band kept touring the Finland band scene gathering a loyal fan base.

In 2005, Idle Wolf left to the UK to study jazz and pursue a musical career while being involved in various projects as a session musician, on stage and in the studio. His biggest accomplishment was a lead guitarist role in the Who’s Quadrophenia Rock Opera which was transformed on stage in 2008 in Cardiff’s Sherman Theatre.

In 2009, Idle Wolf Mk II, gathered in a Wooden House to capture their energetic live feel. These three-day sessions were published in 2012/13 as a vinyl and download release through Twig Beach Records. This debut album called “Idle Wolf” produced a number of great reviews and Idle Wolf was quoted also as “…what a metalled up Jimi Hendrix Experience might sound like”, “…eclectic listen in fine style”, “…Idle Wolf brings in mind such artists as Jimi Hendrix or Frank Marino”

2013 was a very defining year for Idle Wolf. The band introduced the Mark III Line up with The Specthorn on Drums and Gizmo on bass. The band added few cover song to its repertoire and shifted their music and expression more towards blues but also towards musical freedom which they started calling Voodoo Rock. The band toured Finland and triumphed their fantastic year with three shows in London in legendary venues as the Fiddlers’ Elbow and the Hope and Anchor which have seen performances from such giants as Dire Straits and U2.

in 2013, Idle Wolf also started touring as a solo artist transforming his lively musical experience into smaller venues.
